The Yarrabah Pump Track stands as a landmark project for its construction and as Australia’s first remote indigenous community pump track. This pioneering initiative brought to the children of Yarrabah, in Far North Queensland, the unprecedented joy of riding, skating, and scooting on a facility designed specifically for their enjoyment. With a total construction area of 1,350m2 and an asphalt surface spanning 350m2, this project was more than a build; it was a beacon of new experiences and possibilities for the community.
Spearheaded by World Trail in collaboration with the Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council, this endeavour was about much more than laying asphalt; it was about laying down roots for community engagement, joy, and activity in an area with limited recreational facilities. Our role extended from initial design conception to the jubilant opening day, closely involving the council and community members to secure grant funding and ensure the pump track met and exceeded community expectations.
The visible excitement and enthusiasm from the community propelled our team to create a space that was not just accessible and fun but truly meaningful for everyone in Yarrabah, marking a significant milestone in community development and recreational infrastructure.
